The Sinars Family Escapades: Day 6--Pearl Harbor

We spent Sunday the 27th at Pearl Harbor. Unfortunately, the Arizona tickets had already been given out for the day, and the USS Missouri was in drydock. But we did visit the USS Bowfin and its museum, as well as the Pacific Aviation Museum.

Here is a replica of the Bowfin and it's flag of casualties, well it's first flag of casualties. They had another 2nd flag during WWII.

This is a picture of a missile (taken apart so you can see inside) with Duncan, Dan & Claudia. If you notice, Duncan is much too busy looking at the interior of the missile to look at the camera.

Dan and Duncan inside one of the rooms of the Bowfin. I spent alot of my time telling Duncan to stop touching things, levers, buttons, wheels like that big gold one in front of them. If memory serves me correctly, just after this pic was taken I had to say, "Duncan stop turning that wheel!" :)

All of the pictures at the Pacific Aviation Museum turned out poorly. The lighting was terrible. And asking a child to sit still long enough for the camera to let enough light in? Next to impossible. They had some great displays though, and a few gigantic maps on the floors that the kids loved. They would have us stand someplace like NM and they would stand on Hawaii, or Midway. There was also a simulator room, where you could pay to use an aircraft simulator for 30 minutes. We went back to the guest services desk to see about buying a ticket for Claudia only to have them tell us that you had to be 8 years old or older to use the simulators. My response was, "So that gentleman with what looks to be a 4 year old on his lap would be....?" They shrugged their shoulders. Poor Claudia was devastated. Anyway, here is one somewhat blurry picture from the museum.

And here is the USS Oklahoma Memorial. B/c the museum and the memorial are on an active military post, we were not allowed to wander around, and could only take pictures from the bus as we passed the memorial.
